23 Mardi Gras Recipes, From Gumbo to King Cake

Mardi Gras Recipes King Cake

If New Orleans is a “food city”, then Mardi Gras is its food holiday. Mardi Gras, aka Fat Tuesday, is a festival celebrating the luxury that is a fine gumbo, a shrimp po’ boy, a warm beignet, or a deliciously sugar coated King Cake before the fasting common during the religious observance of Lent, which begins the day after on Ash Wednesday.

Epicurious has put together a collection of 23 great Mardi Gras recipes, which include all of the above mentioned goodies, as well as delectable eats like shrimp creole and bananas foster. And check out a recipe for the ubiquitous Mardi Gras sweet treat, yellow, green, and purple sugared king cake.
